Welcome to The Piper’s Joy website!

This is a collection of over 400 traditional Irish tunes that you would have heard played since 2011 at our regular Limerick Pub session located in Wheaton, Maryland.

It includes both audio (.wav) and sheet music (.pdf) versions of the tunes. Most were recorded at the session itself, but a few came from other nearby sessions or from online YouTube sources. The audio files are adjusted so that if you loop them they will make the tune sound as continuously repeated – great for practicing! The sheet music versions provide simple easy-to-read outlines of the tune, to be in conjunction with the audio versions.

Although you’d be likely to hear all of these at the Limerick, many others tunes are also regularly played, and are available via many other sources such as thesessions.org website or the wonderful Foinn Seisiún collection on the CCE website.

For The Piper’s Joy I mainly collected tunes I thought were particularly interesting or appealing. These have been invaluable to me as a learning tool, and I hope they will be equally useful to others who’d like to participate in session playing! Finally, I want to thank all the many terrific session musicians who kept the fire alive over more than a decade. See you at the pub!
